Today’s Video of the Day from the USGS reveals that iced-over rivers in the Arctic may still provide a habitat for fish in the wintertime.
According to the USGS, fsh usually inhabit deep river channels and areas where springwater enters a stream.
Researchers discovered that water was flowing beneath the frozen Canning River Delta in a shallow river.
The team observed the unexpected winter habitat under several feet of ice, where algae was seen moving with the flow of the water.
