When will we have drugs to treat COVID-19? Today’s Video of the Day from the American Chemical Society explains what is going on with the search for antiviral drugs capable of curing COVID-19.
Experts describe the challenges of developing safe drugs to target viruses, which grow inside human cells.
According to the researchers, in order to stop the virus from replicating without causing damage to cells, there is a specific enzyme that can be targeted.
Without this enzyme, called RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, the coronavirus cannot replicate itself and spread infection.
