Today’s Video of the Day from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center describes a weak spot in Earth’s magnetic field known as the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA).
Recent observations show that the SAA is expanding westward and continues to weaken.
According to NASA, the SAA does not currently pose visible impacts to daily life on our planet.
However, satellite data reveals that the weak magnetic region of the South Atlantic Anomaly is splitting into two lobes, which presents new challenges for satellite missions that are designed to monitor this phenomenon.
