Today’s Video of the Day from NASA Goddard describes the various capabilities of ICESat-2, which was designed to measure ice sheet elevation and sea ice thickness. ICESat-2 can also capture measurements of tree heights and the topography beneath the surface of water.
In addition, the satellite mission can collect data on mountain glaciers so that scientists can monitor changes, which has important implications for the availability of water resources. Monitoring the mountain glaciers also allows scientists to estimate how they will respond to climate.
