Today’s Video of the Day from Louisiana State University (LSU) describes the various risk factors for gestational diabetes.
While it was believed that this condition could be prevented with a healthier lifestyle, research conducted over the last five years at LSU shows that this is not the case.
The experts found that women who had gestational diabetes were not eating more or burning fewer calories, so energy balance was not a major contributor. Age and family history are two of the factors that determine whether a pregnant mother will develop gestational diabetes.
The study is published in the journal Cell Metabolism.
