New immunotherapy strategy may improve cancer treatment

07-16-2019

Today’s Video of the Day from UMass Amherst describes groundbreaking cancer immunotherapy research led by biomedical engineer Professor Ashish Kulkarni.

The preclinical study is focused on urothelial bladder cancer, which has a high recurrence rate.

Current immunotherapy drugs for bladder cancer are only effective for certain patients due to the way that the condition affects the immune system.

“Despite the standard of care, a lot of patients relapse,” said Professor Kulkarni. He explained that the new immunotherapy strategy has the potential to revolutionize bladder cancer treatment.
