Monitoring Earth’s oceans from space Today’s Video of the Day from the European Space Agency describes how remote sensing techniques help experts monitor the ocean from space.
Radar altimetry satellites show that, on average, sea levels have risen about 3.2 millimeters per year for the past 27 years.
However, the sea level is not rising everywhere at the same rate. The accuracy of altimetry measurements makes it possible to map sea-level rise and pinpoint coastal regions that are the most threatened by flooding and other impacts.
