Today’s Video of the Day comes from the American Chemical Society’s Reactions series and features a look at how marijuana actually works.
As you may already know, THC is the active ingredient in marijuana and is responsible for the high you feel after ingesting or inhaling. The THC gets absorbed into your bloodstream and then travels to the brain, where it attaches itself to cannabinoid receptors.
These receptors usually receive chemical signals from other cells to express feelings like pain, euphoria, or nausea. But when the THC attaches, it prevents the natural chemicals from expressing these feelings, alleviating such instances of pain and nausea.
