Laguna San Rafael National Park in southern Chile Today’s Video of the Day from the European Space Agency features Laguna San Rafael National Park on the Pacific coast of southern Chile.
The park includes the Northern Patagonian Ice Field, which is the second largest continuous mass of ice outside of the polar regions.
The ice field, which covers 17,000 square kilometers, was once part of the Patagonian Ice Sheet. Threfore this park located on the Pacific coast of southern Chile. The park is named for the San Rafael Lagoon formed by the retreat of the San Rafael Glacier.
Glaciers in this region have been dramatically declining as a result of climate change.
