Today’s Video of the Day from the American Chemical Society addresses the question of whether using cannabidiol (CBD) puts you at risk of failing a drug test.
Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the active chemical in marijuana that makes users feel high, CBD is not psychoactive.
However, the chemical structures of CBD and THC are very similar. In addition, CBD is not FDA-approved, so there is no guarantee that the contents listed on the label are accurate.
A 2017 study from the University of Pennsylvania tested more than 80 CBD products and found traces of THC in over 20 percent of them.
