Today’s Video of the Day from the European Space Agency features an animated look at thousands of asteroids in our Solar System captured by the Gaia satellite.
With a mission of mapping a billion stars in the Milky Way, Gaia can easily observe asteroids closer to the Earth as it scans the sky.
The satellite regularly documents known celestial objects and also helps scientists to identify new ones.
In this video, the orbits of the first four asteroids discovered by Gaia are highlighted in pink, while the 200 brightest objects are highlighted in green.
