You’re probably most familiar with hearing about these mysterious compounds from sports drink commercials, which always seem to emphasize their extreme importance. Electrolytes are actually salts that help our cells move water around. They are also important to our nervous system, as they enable the impulses that keep our lungs breathing and hearts beating.
