Today’s Video of the Day from the American Chemical Society (ACS) describes how it is possible that toilet water can actually be transformed into drinking water.
According to ACS, we have gotten so good at cleaning water that in some places, you can take the dirtiest water you can possibly think of and make it a refreshing drink again.
In some regions of the US, we are running out of clean drinking water. Experts have predicted that over the next 50 years, the US freshwater supply could be reduced by as much as one third.
Some places have started to “super clean” wastewater to make drinking water. The water is cleaned for taste, but also to remove anything that could make us sick, such as heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, and chemicals.
