Taipei Taiwan has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are long, humid and hot, with occasional heavy rainstorms and typhoons. Winters are short, hot and foggy because northeast winds from the vast Siberian High intensify because of the pooling of cooler air in the Taipei Basin. Air pollution in Taipei comes from motor vehicle exhaust, particularly from scooters. Early in the morning, the air is less moving, so there are more fine particles and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
