Snow lingers in the Netherlands after Storm Darcy Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency features the Netherlands on February 11, 2021, days after the country was hit with its first major snowstorm in a decade. 

The Netherlands and parts of Germany were hit by Storm Darcy last Sunday. Strong winds and sub-zero temperatures prompted a “code red” weather warning and disrupted travel. Snow lingers in the Netherlands after Storm Darcy

The image, which was captured by Copernicus Sentinel-3, shows the Netherlands still blanketed with snow as temperatures remain below freezing across the region. The four largest cities in the Netherlands are AmsterdamRotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht. Amsterdam is the country’s most populous city and nominal capital, while The Hague holds the seat of the States GeneralCabinet and Supreme Court.[21] The Port of Rotterdam is the busiest seaport in Europe, and the busiest in any country outside East Asia and Southeast Asia, behind only China and Singapore. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the busiest airport in the Netherlands, and the third busiest in Europe. The country is a founding member of the EU, Eurozone, G10, NATO, OECD and WTO, as well as a part of the Schengen Area and the trilateral Benelux Union.
