Sea ice emerges off Cape Navarin - Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features sea ice off Cape Navarin in northeast Siberia. The cape forms the southern boundary of the Gulf of Anadyr in the western Bering Sea.

The image was captured on November 2, 2021 by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on Landsat 8. Kay Ohshima, a scientist at Hokkaido University, said that the sea ice is showing up right on time this year.

In this part of the Bering Sea, ice usually appears along shallow coastal shelf areas like Cape Navarin by mid-October, but the growth of ice can be unpredictable.
