Hurricane Sam charges across the Atlantic

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory is a satellite view of Earth featuring Hurricane Sam in the Atlantic Ocean.

The photo was captured on September 30 by NASA’s Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) on NOAA’s DSCOVR satellite.

At the time, Hurricane Sam was a category 4 storm located about 1,000 kilometers southeast of Bermuda and moving northwest.

Tropical Storm Victor is also visible in the image, located about 1,000 kilometers southwest of the Cabo Verde islands.

Hurricane Sam is not expected to make landfall, but could impact Bermuda and the U.S. East Coast with high winds and dangerous waves.
