Today’s Image of the Day from the NASA Earth Observatory shows the record-breaking number of wildfires that have ignited across Sweden.
By July 19, more than 40 fires were active and hundreds of people had been evacuated from their homes. Firefighting airplanes and helicopters from Italy and Norway are assisting in the effort to diminish the fires.
Sweden has experienced unusually high temperatures and low rainfall this month, which has contributed to the wildfire outbreak.
