In a similar vein, the Nabataeans carved blocks and pillars to represent all of the deities they worshiped. Experts refer to these creations as “god blocks.” To form them, tribe members would chip away at a hilltop or cliffside until they left behind a giant block. Later on, they began carving human-like features on to the monoliths, showing Greek and Roman influence on the culture. Photo Credit: Anderson, Bjorn. University of Iowa / Wikimedia Commons
