Fires burning in northern Australia

Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at several fires burning in northern Australia.

The image was captured by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi NPP satellite on June 15, 2017.

For the most part, the grassland fires in northern Australia this time of year are relatively small, as it is only the beginning of the dry season. But this year is a bit different, as some have suspected that hunters have been setting the fires on purpose.
