Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features widespread flooding in southern Iran.
The region was gripped by drought throughout 2021, and then overwhelmed by rain and snow storms during the first week of 2022.
Heavy rainfall triggered deadly flash floods that wiped out bridges, swamped homes, and inundated farmland.
The false-color photograph of southern Iran was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite on January 7, 2022.
