The Cotahuasi Canyon in Peru is seen here in today’s Image of the Day from the NASA Earth Observatory . The Cotahuasi Canyon is one of the deepest in the world, measuring 1.5 to 2.2 miles deep, and formed over the course of millions of years as rivers and glaciers eroded the plateau. This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
