Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the Cassini spacecraft taking one last glimpse at Earth before embarking on the last stage of its mission.
The Cassini spacecraft has made a quite remarkable series of dives between Saturn and its rings, and will complete its already-iconic mission by plunging into Saturn’s atmosphere.
This photo was captured on April 13, 2017 at 870 million miles away from Earth. The part of the Earth facing Saturn at this time was the southern Atlantic Ocean.
