In 1923 a distinguished group of Pueblo chiefs gathered at the U.S. Capitol. They traveled there for a hearing of the Senate Lands Committee, making them the first of their people to visit Washington, D.C. since the time of Abraham Lincoln. The chiefs were campaigning against a bill to allow settlers easier access to Pueblo lands. And, happily, it was a fight they ultimately won. Library of Congress
