Roll clouds cover the Pacific Atolls in this spectacular Image of the Day, courtesy of the NASA Earth Observatory. While areas close to the equator are frequently cloudy, these roll clouds are a bit more unique. Strong winds from the storm cause turbulence in the air, which creates long rolls of counter-rotating air.
