Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at Marion Island off the coast of South Africa.
The photo was captured by the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) on board NASA’s Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite.
Marion Island is located in the Indian Ocean off the southern coast of Africa, just south of Prince Edward Island, which is slightly smaller. The island sits along the line where the African Continental Plate meets the Antarctic Plate, and has been volcanically active for at least 18,000 years.
