This Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the Sunset Crater in the San Francisco Volcanic Field. The Sunset Crater was created in 1085 C.E. when a new volcano erupted and spewed ash and lava all over the surrounding area. During the eruptions, magma rose up through a vent forming a cinder cone.
