Today’s Video of the Day from NASA Goddard describes the fascinating findings of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), which recently completed its survey of the northern sky.
Astronomers are now just beginning to sort through an enormous amount of data collected by TESS. For example, the mission has detected thousands of potential new planets, and a few northern stars have been confirmed to host planets.
One such planet-star system contains three Neptune-size worlds.
During its primary mission, TESS managed to map about 75 percent of the sky. The cameras have now turned back to the southern sky to complete another year-long survey, which will include areas that were not yet mapped.
