It is endemic to Hawaii, where it is known only from the island of Molokai. It is threatened by the degradation and destruction of its habitat. It is a federally listed endangered species of the United States.Schiedea sarmentosa, a member of the pink family, is a many-branched shrub 12-18 in (30.5-45.7 cm) tall. The opposite leaves are slender, threadlike, 0.6-1.8 in (1.5-4.6 cm) long, and 0.01-0.05 in (0.3-1.3 mm) wide. These leaves are covered with dense, glandular hairs.
