Description

Stems 10-20cm high, sometimes less, from a more or less tuberous rootstock. Leaves 1.5-4cm long, broadly lanceolate in outline, pinnatisect to pinnate with toothed ovate leaflets. Flowers about 1.2cm long, deep yellow with most of the upper lip dark red, in fairly open spikes, late summer. Arctic and subarctic America, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, in meadows, heaths and gravelly places where the soil is acid.
