Description

Mercurialis tomentosa is a species of plant belonging to the family Euphorbiaceae It is a perennial plant dioica densely tomentose, multicaule, a silvery gray. Stems 30-70 cm high, erect, branched, woody at the base, persistent, foliose. Leaves 5-40 x 3-20 mm, subsessile, somewhat coriaceous, elliptical to elliptical-lanceolate, entire or weakly dentate, acute or obtuse, mucronate; with petiole 2-5 mm; linear-lanceolate, hairy stipules Male flowers in axillary spikes of small glomerulidense with sitting flowers, relatively close to each other, forming an interrupted and pedunculated spike of 5 mm, with the tomentose axis; female flowers axillary, solitary, geminated or in small numbers, subsessile or shortly pedunculated. Sepals 1,5-4 mm, ovate-lanceolate, acute, tomentose, greenish. Ovary tomentoso. Fruit of 3-4.5 x 4-6 mm, densely tomentose; peduncle 5-8 mm at maturity. Seeds 2.5-3 x 2 mm, broadly ovoid-globose, dark, shiny, somewhat rough.
