(Lacmellea speciosa)
This small to medium size tree, 6 to 20 m in height, is native to primary and secondary forests in Central and South America, from Panama, to Colombia Ecuador and Peru. It grows a sturdy trunk, covered by dark-brown bark, elliptical leaves that are green above and have conspicuous black spots below and cream to yellowish-green flowers, followed by yellow fruits. The wood of Lacmellea speciosa is occasionally used in the manufacture of artisanal objects. Ideal for the humid tropics.
