Description

The smaller bat ( Nyctalus leisleri Kuhl,1817 ) is a bat of the family of Vespertilionids spread in ' Palearctic ecozone.Small bat,with head and body length between 62 and 72 mm,length of forearm between 38 and 47 mm,tail length between 31 and 48 mm,foot length between 6 and 10 mm,the length of the ears between 7 and 16 mm,a wingspan up to 34 cm and a weight up to 20 g.The fur is long,soft,shiny,dense and extends on the wings up to the elbows and knees.The dorsal parts are golden brown with the base of the dark hairs,while the ventral parts are yellowish with the base of the dark hairs.The snout is dark brown,broad,with two glandular masses on the sides and with the nostrils projected forward and outwards,separated by a deep furrow.The ears are short,triangular and well separated,with the rounded end,4-5 folds on the back margin and the long,short antitragus extending forward to the back corner of the mouth.The tragusit is very short and with a rounded end.The wing membranes are long,thin,dark brown and attached at the back on the ankles.The tip of the tail extends slightly beyond the broad uropatage,which is covered with hair at the base.The calcar is long and with a fairing formed by a T- shaped cartilaginous structure.
