(Lathamus discolor)
The migrating parakeet ( Lathamus discolor ) is a species of psittaciform bird of the family Psittaculidae endemic to southeastern Australia.It breeds in Tasmania and migrates in winter to the southeast of the Australian continent,to the region of Griffith - Warialda in New South Wales in the east and Adelaida in the west.It is the only member of the genus Lathamus.It belongs to the subfamily Platycercinae,so it is related to the parrots of the genus Platycercus,although it has eating habits similar to those of the lories.The migratory parakeet is a species in danger of extinction,since there are only about 1,000 breeding pairs in the wild,and its population is in decline.
