Description

Pseudomys australis is a mammalian species described by Gray 1832.Pseudomys australis is part of the genus Australian moss,and the family of rat animals.No subspecies are listed in the Catalog of Life.Pseudomys australis is a rodent from the genus Pseudomys that occurs in Australia.Its distribution area covers the middle of South Australia.It used to be bigger,to Southeastern West Australia,Southwest Queensland and Northwest New South Wales.His habitat consists of open,rather dry areas.The back is sand gray or silver gray,the bottom white,with a gradual transition.The tail is dark brown from above and from below white.This animal is stocky built,with long ears and a round beak.The head-body length is 100 to 140 mm,the tail length is 90 to 120 mm,the hindfoot length 25 to 30 mm,the ear length 20 to 25 mm and the weight 40 to 75 grams.Females have 0 + 2 = 4 mammae.The species is active during the day and lives in holes.He mainly eats seeds,but also some roots and arthropods.When the animal is alarmed,he stands on his hind legs and screams.These animals mate as it has rained;the populations can therefore fluctuate strongly.
