Description

Mus mayori is a rodent from the genus Mus that occurs in the rainforests of Sri Lanka.This species is most closely related to the other species of the subgenus Coelomys.Some authors see the subspecies mayori from the highland and pococki from the lowlands as separate subspecies.The coat is very variable: some animals have a long,soft coat,others are prickly.The back coat is somewhat lighter for some specimens,with some darker browns.The abdominal fur is identical in some respects to the back,while others are white,with or without a clear separation of the back.Females have 3 + 2 mammae.The head-to-body length averages 98.2 mm,the tail length 96.0 mm,the hindfoot length 25.00 mm and the skull length 29.87 mm.
