(Kobus megaceros)
The cobe of Mrs Gray or Lechwe cobe of the Nile (Kobus megaceros) is a species of the Kobus genus discovered by Fitzinger in 1855.It is very similar to Lechwe's Cobe.It is a medium size antelope, but the females are smaller.Only the male has horns, but they are implanted more vertically than those of the Lechwe cobe.Their main hoofs are long and narrow, and their lateral hooves are broad and strong;they have the back of hairy pasterns. They have 2 inguinal glands and 4 udders.Mature males are gilded brown and have a brownish black to brownish-brown top and darker head and neck than the back, with white streaks on the neck and withers. The female has yellow to chestnut top.She has no skate or saddle of the withers;young people are like females.Like Lechwe's Cobe and Sitatungaits hooves are perfectly adapted to swampy terrain, making it a semi-aquatic / semi-terrestrial antelope.Their particular hooves (long and spread),allow them not to sink in muddy grounds, but also to swim even better than other antelopes.
