Description

The Madagascar albanella ( Circus macrosceles Newton,1863 ) is a bird of prey in the Accipitridae family,endemic to Madagascar.It is a large albanella,up to 60 cm long.The male's plumage is predominantly black,with a greyish head and tail,while the female is predominantly brown.The Malagasy marsh harrier ( Circus macrosceles ) 2 is a species of bird accipitriforme of the family Accipitridae endemic to Madagascar and the Comoros Islands,in the Indian Ocean.It was previously classified as a subspecies of the marsh harrier in Reunion ( C.maillardi ) but is currently considered as separate species.The Malagasy marsh harrier is between 42-55 cm long.The female is up to 13% larger than the male.The male has a blackish back and a grayish head with dark veining.Its lower parts and the rump are whitish and its tail is gray with dark listing.the front part and the tips of the wings are blackish,while the secondary ones are gray with dark listing.The females are more brownish than the males.The marsh harrier of Reunion is smaller and darker,has shorter legs and more rounded wings.Their males have blacker heads and secondary feathers and electrons have less listing.
